Bakewell and Eyam Community Transport

Bakewell and Eyam Community Transport (BECT) is a registered charity based in the Bakewell area offering a safe, caring, flexible and efficient transport service for people of all ages and backgrounds. We also aim to encourage and facilitate voluntary participation in community activities, as well as help sustain and develop local economies and social integration.

We provide services in rural Derbyshire, from the Hope Valley in the north down to Matlock, Winster and Elton in the south; from Buxton in the west to the North East Derbyshire district. BECT also provides services in the High Peak area through Glossop Community Transport which merged into BECT in April 2015. Details of those services can be accessed from the Community Transport in Derbyshire main page.

Our community transport services are provided using a fleet of ten 16-seat and three 8-seat accessible minibuses.  We also operate a service for individuals provided by volunteers using their own vehicles, supported by our accessible minibuses for wheelchair users or people for whom car transport is not suitable.

In addition, we have two minibuses with which we undertake privately commissioned transport for weddings, airport transfers and events or special contracts for commissioning partners. Any money we make from these services is all put back into providing services for the community.

The community transport services we provide rely on the commitment and dedication of over 70 volunteers who, by using their own vehicles or driving minibuses, help anyone who cannot easily use other public transport options. In addition, over 100 people have joined our "Friends of BECT" scheme and support our work by raising funds, making regular donations of their own or by offering their expertise and services to help with the running of the organisation.

We also aim to be good and responsible members of the environment we share. We have installed a rainwater harvesting system at our depot to enable us to wash our buses without putting a strain on local water supplies. In addition, all of our drivers are trained to drive in an eco-friendly way to reduce pollution, noise and fuel use. Our training programmes also aim to ensure that, on the road, our vehicles are driven in a manner that safe, careful and considerate to passengers and other road-users alike.

BECT is governed by a nine-strong volunteer Board of Trustees. This combines a wide-range of experience and expertise to ensure that the organisation is run in a prudent manner whilst it provides as many services for the community as it can.

Details of our services can be found in the left hand menu.
